Change Download Location in Chrome

The default download location in Chrome is the Downloads folder. This is nice to have if you store all your downloads in this one place. That is, until you want to use another location, or you just want to store certain files somewhere else. Those of use how are used to how Internet Explorer used to work, were it prompted you for a location, will also find this how to article handy. Here is how to change download location in Chrome.

The first step you want to do is open Google Chrome. If you do not have this awesome web browser, I recommend downloading it now from Google.

After you opened Chrome go to the wrench in the upper right hand corner and click on it.

From the drop down menu click on Options.

Google Chrome Options will open in a new window. From there navigate to the “Under the Hood” tab.

You will want to scroll down to the bottom, until you find the Downloads section. Here you can either check the check box next to “Ask where to save each file before downloading”. Or you can change the default folder to another by clicking on the Browse button.

If you check the check box you will be prompted every time you download something. If you don’t want that, you can go back to the options and uncheck the check box.
