Hello, I have a 2014 Macbook Pro that has a bad super drive. I’ve been trying to install Windows 7 on it using Boot Camp but can’t get past the part to actually install Windows. Every time I hold down the ALT key to select the Windows install it says NO BOOTABLE DEVICE — INSERT BOOT DISK AND PRESS ANY KEY. I’ve tried your post in creating a bootable Windows 7 USB drive to see if this would work, but I keep getting the same error over and over again.
You could always get an external drive that might work for you, if not there is a longer version by using Parallels for Mac to do the install. It is outlined in this link: https://hugobaganha.wordpress.com/2014/03/04/windows-7-installation-on-a-macbook-pro-without-optical-drive-en/https://hugobaganha.wordpress.com/2014/03/04/windows-7-installation-on-a-macbook-pro-without-optical-drive-en/
