Make a Bootable Linux Flash Drive with UNetbootin

Few days back we showed you How to Create a Bootable Windows 7 Flash Drive. But what about Linux? Don’t worry we can do the same thing with a little program called UNetbootin.

Using UNetbootin

UNetbootin is a portable application that runs on Linux and Windows. Just download, link below, and run the executable.

From UNetbootin interface you can tell there are 3 different ways to get a Linux distro. All the ways lead to the same finishing steps.

Download Linux Distro

The first way is to download the Linux OS then install it to a drive. Select what distribution you want and what version.

Select ISO or Floppy Image

The second choice is for those who already downloaded a Linux distro. Just click the radio button for Diskimage. Select either ISO or Floppy then browse for the ISO or Floppy image.

Special or Custom

The last and most advanced option is to select a Custom Kernel and options. If that is what your looking for just select the radio button for Custom and make sure you get your paths correct…

Setting up Flash Drive

Whatever choice you choose from above make sure you select USB Drive from the bottom and make sure you select your appropriate drive letter.

Then click ok to start the process.

It will ask you to reboot to boot to the flash drive.

Test it out and make sure it works!
