Learning Ubuntu: How to take Screenshots with Shutter

If you come from Windows Vista or Windows 7 you are probably familiar with with the Snipping Tool. For us who are learning to use Ubuntu for the first time here is a tool that is just as easy to use as the Snipping Tool.

How to install it

To get the Shutter tool simple go to the Ubuntu Software Center

Then go to the search box in the upper right hand corner and search for Shutter and click the arrow to go to programs install page.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click install.

Installing will take a moment and will also require an Admin password.

How to Take Screenshots with Shutter

After installing Shutter go to the Applications menu then Accessories and click on Shutter.

Shutter will open. This is the main window for the program  and is really straight forward.

Like I said before it is really easy to use, just select any one of the screen capture buttons.

Then make your selection

After you make your selection you can edit it by going to the paint brush icon and click on it.

The Shutter DrawingTool will open and let you do some finial touchups to your screenshot.

Conclusion

The Shutter tool is an easy application to understand and use, it doesn’t take that long to figure it out and start taking screenshots with it.
