If you are trying to restore your firmware and you run across an error it can be a real pain. On of my favorite errors has to be 1013, because it is such a simple fix. This error occurs when you try to restore your firmware and iTunes is having a problem with contacting the actually Apple servers.
Here is an example of what it looks like:
To fix this all you have to do is go to your hosts file, under C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc
Open the file in Notepad or another editor and delete all gs.apple.com entries you have there.
These are usually there because someone tried to trick iTunes to jailbreak there phone.

i try all this steps and i get the same error
there is not a line in the HOST file that has gs.apple.com or anything to do with apple in it. so what do I do next?
You can add a new line with that in it.
what about if its ion a mac
Hi… when i dont have the gs.apple.com entries… I am getting the 3194 error… If i have them… the restore is progressing and i am getting the 1013 half way through the restore. Please hellp!
