If you are trying to restore your firmware and you run across an error it can be a real pain. On of my favorite errors has to be 1013, because it is such a simple fix. This error occurs when you try to restore your firmware and iTunes is having a problem with connecting to the actually Apple servers. Here is how to fix error 1013 while restoring firmware on the iPhone.
Fix Error 1013 while Restoring Firmware
Error 1013 has this text when you start the restore process:
The iPhone “iPhone” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1013).
Here is an example of what it looks like.
If you are getting this here is how to fix it. All you have to do is go to your hosts file, under C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc .
Open the file in Notepad or another editor and delete all gs.apple.com entries you have there.
These are usually there because someone tried to trick iTunes to jailbreak there phone. Usually they will use Tiny Umbrella for this, but sometimes people will try the host file. After you delete them, make sure you save the hosts file. Then try to restore your iPhone. Also make sure you have the latest version of iTunes. You can download it from this link.
If this doesn’t fix the 1031 error make sure you have internet connection. Error 1031 happens whenever iTunes cannot verify the restore with Apple. so make sure you can get to Google.com. After this doesn’t work, go to our comments and post the problem.
